Tim, but in a way you are right. The Cold War never ended. While one side claimed victory, the other side never stopped attacking the other ever since. With a more involved battle they themselves call "Unrestricted Warfare".

@frankfratto not really, the budget surplus was mostly from welfare reform and corporate taxes that came from higher profit margins by shipping all our manufacturing jobs to China. He didn't help the people of China, the world, or us in the long run. NAFTA was a small threat compared to the devastating impact the Permanent and Normalized Trade with China Act has had on the middle class. Without his very questionable motives to normalize trade with an authoritarian communist regime, responsible for the Tiananmen Square Massacres in 1989, PRC China likely wouldn't have been allowed into the WTO. He opened Pandora's Box.
