  1. Heartbreaking to see depositors losing their money in a sector they thought it would be safe. The CCP made the banks an adjunct of its corruption to use depositors' money to prop up the collapsed real estate industry. Deposits may have been safer under the matresses in China. This is the curse of a totalitarian regime where people have no one to turn to for help because your own government screwed you.

  2. Authoritarian regimes decide which laws are legal or illegal. No rule of law in China. The CCP can do what it pleases.

  3. The government pre-empted it by having banks freeze all accounts. Depositors will have to personally go to their banks to have them unfreeze it, probably allowing the government to 'vet' the depositors.
