  6. Chinese people prefer buying imported fruits than the locally-produced ones because they know the real score as far as food safety standards in China. Even the farmers themselves will never eat their own produce and would rather discard them at a huge loss. Rampant and excessive use of pesticides, hormones, formaldehyde and other toxic chemicals have come back to haunt them.

  8. Unable to get a job in the urban areas, unable to sell their produce in rural areas. Drought in the north, devastating floods in the south. Ordinary Chinese people really being squeezed in all directions. And that's not counting being forced to pay alleged tax arrears for the last 30 years. Things are bound to snap soon.

  9. Poultry and meat products from China are a hard-sell in the international market due to dodgy practices by unscrupulous farmers. Instead of exporting, they can keep the meat for their own consumption. At least, they won't go hungry.
