Ordinary Chinese people really being squeezed in all directions. And that's not counting being forced to pay alleged tax arrears for the last 30 years. Things are bound to snap soon.

  2. Poultry and meat products from China are a hard-sell in the international market due to dodgy practices by unscrupulous farmers. Instead of exporting, they can keep the meat for their own consumption. At least, they won't go hungry.

  3. They need hard cash to pay off loans and debts. Farmers are already in heavy debt so a poor harvest or poor returns will push them deeper.

  4.  @jojox5136  they can only make those into tomato catsup/paste since tomatoes are a highly-perishable item. You can only eat so much tomatoes for days. Now i understand why they spray those with formaldehyde to keep them look fresh.

  7. The world knows of China's questionable food quality standard. Using hormones, excessive pesticides, toxic food, unethical treatment of animals, etc. Even Chinese farmers themselves don't consume their own produce because they know how it was grown.
