Chinese companies have developed a scheme wherein they will hire newly-grads as "apprentice" ostensibly to give the youngsters "actual working experience". Those apprentice will be given a 4 to 5 months "probation" to see if they can manage, and minimal allowance, if at all. At the end of probation period, the company will inform the apprentice that he/she will not be hired as a regular employee for one reason or another, like unsatisfactory performance. The company will then hire a new batch of "apprentice" and repeat the practice. New grads put up with this practice because they need working experience if they hope to make it far in their career, and companies know it and take advantage of cheap labor. There were even reports that some grads were paying companies to take them in as "apprentice".

The PLA can recruit those unemployed into the military. There will be no shortage of cannon-fodder should China decides to move against Taiwan.

Chinese companies must be so hard-pressed for money that they would scam unsuspecting people through investments with lopsided terms, with the government tolerating the fraud. The abysmal job market is pushing the unemployed into a life of facade to save face. The curse when a country has a huge population of employable people but very few jobs available. Companies can afford to be choosy and hire inexperienced newly-grads that they could pay peanuts.

Maybe she and her boss were having an affair and got caught in the act by the wife herself. To save his own skin, his boss had to ditch her.
