  1. There was a documentary about NK five or six years ago when the foreigner visited a children's school and the kids performed music on a stage in his honor. He noticed that the kids playing the instruments weren't playing them at all but they were just 'playing' in synchronous with a piped-in music. It's like doing lip-synch.

  2. A defacto caste system exists in NK. The apartments assigned to the elites and members of Kim's ruling circle have all the amenities (i.e. heating, water, gas) 24/7. Units assigned to the 'middle' class (i.e. academicians, technocrats) like this household have the same amenities but prone to outages and interruptions, while ordinary families (even those privileged to live in Pyongyang) make do with housing without any of those enjoyed by the favored circle.
