@VanessaMagick road deaths have too many factors. Car quality, road quality, the quality of the driver (and how they react differently), density of cars. The US does need to change, but making roads narrower and purposely placing obstacles close to the road isn't going to make the roads safer. Personally I hate how narrow roads are in some places in Europe. I just want to get to my destination, not have to navigate my way through a maze of parked cars and single lane roads - fuck that.

@m.f.3347 yeah but a big portion of the highway does have a speed limit, especially around places with high volumes of traffic. And just like my other comment, there's just too many factors.

@therealdutchidiot that's how it should be, or have a wide bike lane along the side. They should never have to share a car lane

You mean you don't want to bike for 2 hours everyday to get to your job and back?
2
Yeah what is that shit. Who honestly wants to drive down a one lane, two way road
2
How do you get around your house with such a poor sense of direction
2
You don't have to watch your speedometer to stay under the limit. If you do you probably shouldn't have your license.

@m.f.3347 I won't list the variables again, but there's so much about how different countries approach driving that comparing them is pointless. The Netherlands is nothing like the US, so trying to imitate it won't work there.

Speedbumps are terrible. They only work on roads that are meant to be slow - so residential roads. But they make a fuckton of noise. They are only good in car parks

In Australia we rarely have stop signs. Our local roads almost never converge at a 4 way intersection, and when they do most of the time a small roundabout is used.

UK roads are horrible.

So if I here you right, we should remove speed limits and make roads more narrow.
