  2. I hate Google for 1 reason: it mindlessly recommends journalism over all other content. The internet has this great benefit over other forms of media that anyone can post information easily for anyone to see, it allows experts to create a website and share information to you. Instead Google prefers to give this role to clueless journalists who have no knowledge on the subject, who talk to under qualified “experts”, and who give a barebones and often incorrect summary on what you want. I want content made with passion, not content spat out for a commission

  5. The alternative to fractional reserve banking is we pay 5%/yr for the bank to hold our money. It's like complaining about online advertisers, but then saying you wouldn't pay $180/yr to use Google. Ontop of that is it even desirable? Banks lending out 90% of their deposits adds a massive amount of liquidity and velocity to the markets. It means money gets to where it needs to be faster.

  12. In the past few years, the screen has seen incremental improvements. The removal of the home button was a great improvement. OLED screens, smaller "notches", and improve response times as well.

I’m fine with them moderating their platform, but I’m not going to sit here and pretend that they are not biased. And it’s my right as an individual to voice my concerns on that matter. I think it’s incredibly problematic to have a corporation like “Alphabet” (Google) control the vast majority of content people see on a daily basis.

  33. Security by Obscurity is also overhated. It's not a substitute to secure software, but it makes it harder to find. Linux is not less prone to malware because it's open source, it's less prone because it has less users. It's users are also generally more tech-educated, making them bad targets.

  36. Banks can't declare bankruptcy. They aren't getting bailed out. The FDIC is liquidating all their assets. They aren't winning anything. Many millionaires, billionaires and tech companies have lost billions. Even if can retrieve most of their deposits later on, they need money now to keep their business afloat.

  47. Torrenting, hiding shit from isps, getting around ip bans or region restrictions (though popular VPNs are often blocked anyway). Torrenting is probably the biggest reason. At least where I live isps are forced by law to store all logs for 2 years and report any suspicious activity immediately. A VPN in another country doesn’t have to follow those rules.
