Ben Chesterman Medicare in Australia isn’t free, it’s partially subsidised. Everyone has access to it, no matter your income. It’s a great system

Ben Chesterman $60 000 AUD a year is pretty good money, you can easily live comfortably. Healthcare is subsidised, schooling is free. Our cost of living isn’t too high, and wages are pretty high. We have one of the highest minimum wages in the world. Overall it’s a good system. Would it work in the US? Probably not.

Canada’s public health system is less than perfect. It might have changed, but I’ve heard many stories of massive wait times and terrible service.

The cost is the problem. Nothing is truely free Anyway out of all countries the us still spends the most per capita on public healthcare through Medicaid. It’s not that the us can’t do what others do, it’s already doing it. It’s that the us is just far too expensive

Father son?! Medicare doesn’t need to be completely as based, an opt in system where everyone pays the same would essentially work exactly the same as insurance. But the benefits is that this insurance will have both the economies of scale and the power to reduce medical prices.

As long as he has insurance he should be fine, life is better fir the rich in the us.

From what I’ve heard, the NHS isn’t a great example of socialised healthcare.

College debt is fine, 4 years of tuition and housing is obviously going to cost you - and it means you can’t just get a degree and run off. Many people will get education abroad for free and then come to the US because the pay is better, the taxes are lower and the cost of living is lower.

Ben Chesterman $60000 = $11047 income tax, $2400 payroll, $4500 super. Then the rest (~$44000) is a pretty decent amount of money to live on. The tax is almost the exact same as the us, but you have a hugger payroll tax and no super.

Ben Chesterman it’s not high taxation that’s causing debt, just our houses (were) in high demand. Tax isn’t all that high over in Australia,
