@yeahokbuddy2510 communists were slaves. They couldn’t negotiate pay, couldn’t decide where they lived, they had all their wants and needs chosen for them. What was to be produced wasn’t decided by demand of the people but by the state.

Enforcement of the fairness doctrine was controlled by the government in power and thus weaponised to censor their opponents whilst letting stations who supported them curtail the rules. It was never really fair. It also wouldn’t work today. It only existed on the principle that there were a limited number of TV broadcasters, it didn’t apply to print media because there was more competition. Today there is ample access to differing views it isn’t necessary

Definitely some room for antitrust in media but what he’s saying is that law shouldn’t force the media to say things which is fair.

Of course China isn’t communist. They tried that and it utterly failed. Now they’re some mix of the most free, unregulated capitalism on the planet and a highly interventionist government which sounds like an oxymoron but it is true.
