People who contract measles are immune to measles because your body makes “memory” cells about the specific antibodies to target the disease. That is what a vaccine replicates - just in a much safer way.

Mandy Hampson yes, the flu is America’s 8th biggest killer. Forget cars, or guns - vaccinate!

Peter Wade I wonder why cases of measles are low... And that is actually a 300% jump - which is not good when you take into account the severity of measles

They probably would have caught it before the vaccine was administered, as it takes a few days for it to work. And that’s not that bad, considering how many people are vaccinated anyway compared to the number not.

They are worried about babies, the elderly, people with immunodeficiencies or those who are allergic to certain vaccines.

Some people have immune system deficiencies, meaning that their body either has an allergic reaction to the vaccine, or the immune system doesn’t make a “memory” of the weakened cells it comes across. Those people are extremely weak, and unless their is a “herd immunity” they are pretty vulnerable to any disease. Also by vaccinating yourself you no longer rely on others to vaccinate.

The chances of getting a severe effect is almost 1 in a million, and usually occur as a result of an allergic reaction. I’m pretty sure you can get tests, and I would recommend these tests if you are worried. Still a lot better than the side effects of contracting the disease.
