Not one or the other. Norway spends a whopping $129 222 (USD) per prisoner in 2018. To put that in perspective, thats more than what two people in the US make in a year combined. To push a system similar to Norway’s, the US will have to quadruple the prison budget, costing taxpayers almost 400 billion dollars a year. No prisoner deserves $120 000 each year to live better than much of the population. There are actually good citizens that would do so much better with that money instead

It gives people with disabilities, or people who aren’t as strong as an attacker (women, children) a chance to protect themselves. They also prevent between 500000-3000000 crimes each year, according to the CDC. More people die by falling, or harming themselves, by the flu or even car accidents than by guns. Guns are not America’s biggest problem, and their bonuses make that so.

And if your going to talk about the military budget, you’ve got to know the reasoning. Not only is that money going towards making the worlds most dangerous and powerful military in the world, that money also goes into foreign aid. The us is allied with many many countries, most who rely on US for protection from a aggressor, like Vietnam who’s only defence from China in the South China Sea is the US. I have some great cost saving measures that could easily reduce military funding: Conscription. Volunteer based military’s are more expensive because no ones volunteering to an under equipped military. No more foreign aid. The us is to pull all of its troops and medical personnel out of foreign countries to save money. No more military arms research. We don’t need weapons obviously. Because the rest of the world is completely peaceful and not at all going to threaten the US or it’s allies.

Under Obama, people were leaving the workforce (which lead to the reduction in unemployment as when people leave the workforce - they aren’t counted). Under Trump, people were returning. - The lowest CO2 emissions since 1992, CO2 emissions are reducing at an identical rate as under the Obama administration Is Trump perfect? No. He has continued to raise government spending, not drawing back spending like he said he would. But compared to heavy spender Biden, he’s an angel.

  39. Because they earned it. Call it greed, call it anything. However what I call it is incentive, and these incentives have driven capitalism for decades. These billionaires have built up some of the most successful multinational corporations ever, they’ve change lives. Amazon, Microsoft, Apple - their innovations have quite literally changed the world. And they get money, which they can reinvest, they can donate or they can give to their children. That’s completely on them. To cap wealth, or have a wealth tax would incentivise these billionaires to invest elsewhere, live elsewhere, and take all of those taxes that their company provides with them.

You say you don’t like individuals to monopolise industries, but what that really means is you don’t want to award this good innovation. That’s why capitalism works, it allows someone with a good idea to start a business run entirely by themselves. A single entity owning all resources, like in socialism or communism means that the means of production, and the resources are owned not by those that are successful, but are divided evenly. That hurts innovation.

Maybe for now, but as competition comes in, amazon will have to compete for prices, wages, ect. Maybe look at something like Apple, who’s massive innovations to smartphones paved the way for the devices of today. Do you think it’s bad that the heads of Apple are rewarded for doing so?

As long as the people are fairly paid (which they aren’t sometimes, but then again it’s a free market), then they get their money. However their job is much easier and much less risky than running a huge multinational tech corporation like Apple or Microsoft.

  44. xxx xxx look at Jeff Bezos, he innovated by really taking the online marketplace into the mainstream. No one did it better than him, and he was rewarded for it. This is the basic incentive that capitalism provides for innovation. If we were to instead remove private ownership and the idea of a business all together, Jeff wouldn’t have been able to muster the resources to succeed in Amazon - and online marketplaces as a whole would be under realised. If we were to tax him extremely for his success, we would ward off future investments into the US, and mean that Amazon (or any other business) couldn’t gain resources to innovate fast enough. We would lose our free economy to places overseas - like China. Where they have some of the cheesiest labour in the world.

  45. xxx xxx and it depends on the job. Your average checkout cashier won’t be paid anywhere near as much as a doctor or an engineer. That’s completely fair, to be a cashier is so much easier and requires very little skill. Then look even higher, to executives. These are people with years of experience, and who overlook sometimes thousands of individual stores, ect. The skills required, the experience you need, and the difficulty of the job makes them much more valuable.
