The US patent system is deeply flawed as it allows too broad patents. A large company can exploit it just as happens here. Same goes for sofware patents.

I opted out on 'extended features' on my Sony smart tv after I realized that all they did was overlay ads on tv shows lol. Not that I watch tv nowadays, tv channels are full of ads also. All I use on it is the Netflix app and external hdmi for my mac.

If ad block stops working I stop using YT

It's hilarious that ESD sensitive equipment are repaired in presence of ESD generating cats :D

Hate to burst the bubble but this has been done for ages. The only difference between MB 280 and MB 320 has been ECU mapping. The engine is the same, the 280 has a slightly different turbo setup but can be remapped to 320 power levels easy or more. So the engine power has been artificially limited for years, the only difference here is that you can choose to pay the premium monthly instead of paying the premium on purchase.

@RandomUser2401 Well to be fair, Apple has made some really stupid design decisions which raise the question if they're planned lifetime reductions or not. On the other hand the cult of Apple didn't happen by accident, people are generally speaking very satisfied with their ownership experience.

What's the alternative then Louis? A WINDOWS laptop? Please, just no. It's only recently that linux destops have grown to provide a decent alternative and even they lack the smooth integration to the backups and media sources. Apple is not just a hardware producer, it produces an ecosystem that works far better than the competition. When it works.

@rocketsmall4547 If you got your hands on a M1 or M2 you would not want to use that old Sony for a second. They're light years faster, image is better, touch pad and the software is just superior vs windows...

@jokeis8684 Google for the term surgeon

It's because the vast majority of users are very happy with their products. Ask any car mechanic at a dealership and they'll hate the car brand they work with - all they see is broken cars and problems every day.
3
@user-ck9zg5rh4p The point is that there is a negative 'survivor bias' that's happening. Sure the products have a fatal flaw - and a flaw that hits the repairmen repeatedly. But for every device broken, there are many thousands still working so people continue to buy the products and be happy with them even though to the eyes of a repairman, the products are all broken and crap, because nobody sends them the ones that work.
3
@user-ck9zg5rh4p Yes I'm not denying any of the problems. But if people really think that it's ok to not keep backups no matter what the hardware, they have only themselves to blame.
3
@kythrathesuntamer9715 Eh, most banks nowadays require you to use their apps to verify transactions. Also there are paid phone numbers which the infection can call silently and rack up 2000 dollars in bills in a few minutes. So no, I would not want to risk with infecting my phone in any circumstance.

One bad apple (pun intended) can be caught and dealt with. A system where security doesn't exist by default is much worse.
3
@Dracula.25 LOL if you don't do backups you're going to lose your data at some point regardless of what device you use. There is no such thing as fail-safe electronics.
3
@markhonea2461 Ad hominem is a nice way to admit you lost the argument lol.

@rocketsmall4547 The basic level mac mini costs 800 bucks and you get the performance of a high end 2000 dollar Intel PC. How is that expensive?

When I got to shop to super markets which have "free" charging stations, it's funny to see people sit in their cars when I come and continue to sit in their cars waiting to charge when I finish shopping and go home. People have totally lost their marbles.
2
@Stephen_A. I really couldn't care less. The point is that they were wasting their time sitting in the car for what seemed like a small eternity "saving".
2
But dude, you got a Dell!

I saw this block on my gfs computer but never seen it personally...
2
This can happen only as long as people are really stupid.
2
I use ad blockers for the simple fact that many internet threats are spread by infected ads, even if you forget how annoying it is to have your video interrupted 1-5 times per viewing.
2
Funny that you mentioned back up since Apple actually makes backups super easy and users should use them.

@markhonea2461 The moment you need to resort to personal insults it shows you have nothing smarter to say lol

 @markhonea2461 Stop spewing bullshit

M3 is coming soon and it will be a performance leap like the M1 was.

Every repair technician hates their product because all they see is broken products even if 90% of customers are perfectly happy with them.
1
But still hasn't discovered the dark magic of backups.

I've been using adblock for years. I could not imagine using internet (not even talking about youtube) if all the ads would be popping up and flashing all over.
1
What do ram and storage do for you when you have to use windows on the other computers? They don't work together with apple devices, making life much harder on so many levels... And if it's a laptop the intel based windows devices just can't hold a candle to M2 or even M1.
1
You can as easily connect your dongle or Apple tv to the hdmi port of the tv. And then, install pihole to your network and your wifi will be totally ad free.

The 'I didn't know the components could be so small' comment from a Chinese girlfriend raised more chuckles from me, thinking of their encounter in bedroom :)

@kythrathesuntamer9715 By what logic? You just admitted you are doing the exact things that make android phones insecure. Walled garden is superior in devices which require high security.
1
@user-ck9zg5rh4p A walled gargen with app pre-review is infinitely more secure for an average user when it comes to mobile devices. Sure apple itself is a risk but when you compare to the 100% known malicious actors that push malware to play store... Night and day difference.
