Thanks for the briefing! I noticed there may be another variable that was not discussed. Here are three rhetorical questions: Which Middle East countries are trying to dominate the Middle East? Which Middle East countries want to be politically "in control" of the Middle East? Which Middle East countries have the strongest ties to the USA? In my humble opinion these two countries are Saudi Arabia and Turkey. What are the major cultural differences between Saudi Arabia and Turkey versus all other Muslim countries? Religion! 90% of the population of Iran is Shia. In Turkey and in Saudi Arabia less than 20% of the population is Shia and the rest is mostly Sunni. Worldwide Sunni Muslims make up 87-90% of all Muslims!! When I listen to Saudis or Turks casually talk with each other they have shibboleths about the Shia. Could this be an important factor in understanding the Geopolitics of the Middle East?
