I am located in California. California is a two party consent state for audio recordings. IMHO the employer said too much. The ER is only required to provide the employment termination notice, appeal procedures ( if there are any) and instructions for the former employee to return any ER property and materials, collect their personal property and exit the property. At this time they should hand the former EE her last paycheck. Some organizations also have a voluntary HR exit interview used to detect possible violations of law by the ER (Descrimination, Sexual harrassment, possible criminal activities or fraud by ER employees). I have been fired several times ( none for cause) and learned several lessons from these experiences: Never ever form any close bond with any organization or it employees. It is ONLY a job. Isolate your private life from work. They must be two different worlds. How you live, your opinions, your interests, friends should NEVER be known by anyone at the employment organization. I have organized parties and events for retiring employees who have Excellent productivity and loyalty to the organization and most employees vaued them, but the organization DOES NOT CARE, EVER. It is Always about profit and control of others (with or without that stellar employee) . I have seen lives destroyed by the machinations of the HR department and the "Elite' in organizations. I have seen employees with 30 years exemplary service, never using sick leave or costing a dime to the ER, yet they were virtually toasted and roasted to hide petty egos and illegal activites of the organization. Always always have a Plan B C D or E to exit. Never trust online job searches since many are fake including those who are supervising you or "competing" with you. Remember that "active" income (employment) almost always has higher income taxes at any salary and lower benefits than when using "passive" income.
