Have you ever read the Hatch Act, Whistleblower Protection Act, USERRA and the Civil Service reform Act? These are not under 18 USC but they are laws about illegal activities by all federal employees with additional further legal restrictions in the following agencies including the FBI, CIA, DOJ, Secret Service, IRS, ATF, SES, ALJ's, DIA and the Federal Elections Commission. The penalties for violation are minimal (the costs of defense are greater than the potential penalties), but they are the law. The Executive Branch of the federal government is permeated with non-policy, political requirements from GS-3 to GS-15. If federal employees were terminated for violations of these laws the federal bureaucracy would collapse in short order. Perhaps these Acts should be placed under the US Criminal Code with additional and serious penalties for violation? Could we save billions in our budget by inhibiting the overreach of agency employees through enforcement of these existing laws?
