I disagree with many recommendations and have a few more. 1) Don't eat meat? I strongly disagree. Your statistics comparing poor health and increased meat consumption is a correlation without causation rational fallacy and scientifically incorrect. 2) Fast Fashion. I agree! 3) Buy things services not required. I partially agree but my non contract gym membership only costs me $15/month and I actually do weight training 6 days/week instead of the feminist inspired idea of women trying to pick up men by wearing tight fitting Yoga clothes. Times shares are sucker bait. Subscriptions are also a sucker buy. College tuition is not expensive as long as you don't major in "gender studies", Equity studies or other financially useless "majors". If a year course of calculus or statistics is not required what are you really doing/learning? 4) Huge houses. disagree the cost per square foot of a house DECREASES with its size. Conversely a small apartment or condo costs more per square foot. Utilities can be lower with larger houses as long as they were designed properly. My 5 bedroom 4 bath house has lower utility bills than my old apartment! I designed my own thermal barriers including shades and curtains. I used by knowledge of thermodynamics, physics and calculus to figure it out. The increased distance between residences increases social isolation? Not true. The opposite is that as you make smaller and smaller houses closer together ( like an inner city slum) the crime level increases and required government services and taxes to cope with the increased crime and turmoil. I moved to an Exurban location only 2 miles from a city and there are only 24 houses on my street that is one mile long. There is NO crime around here, each of us is our own security service. If I want to go to the city I can walk , jog, ride a bicycle or drive. This is NOT social isolation. It is isolation of criminal elements from my residence. I may not see a car drive down my street for hours. Criminals do not want to take a chance to commit a crime in this area. Two of my neighbors are Police chiefs. I think they know not to live in a crime ridden high density living situation. 5) Ice cold refrigeration? I have three freezers and two refrigerators and am thinking of buying a large walk in refrigerator. Why? To store my meat! I buy my meat in 100 pound increments and also need storage for my home made frozen packs of non GMO and organically grown fruits and vegetables that I grow and harvest. I use natural gas for refrigeration and plan my meals. Most of the wasted energy in freezers and refrigerators is the opening of the doors. This is why I am planning to buy a walk in refrigerator. My HVAC costs are lower with a larger house. I remodeled on my own to account for thermal efficiency. My garage is larger than many houses at over 1650 square feet. Country living is great. 6) Do not eat out I AGREE! I only dine out at the best restaurants when I do go out to eat. Why eat "fast casual junk food with $8 cups of coffee flavored sugar water? NO prepackaged food loaded with carbohydrates, sugar and chemical pesticide residues. 7) Do not buy smart phones or pretend computer gadgets especially Apple products. They are designed to not be repairable or upgradeable by the owner. Instead if you need a cell phone buy throw away Android burner on a prepaid plan. I also disconnected my minimum $70/month land line telephone and replaced it with unlimited VOIP for $4/month. Get rid of high expenses like cable TV or satellite TV. You are actually paying big bucks just to watch commercial advertising. TV shows originally used to be 24 minutes long, now they are about 13 minutes with 16 minutes of ads and half of this puny 16 minutes is a repeat from the previous show. 8) Most new appliances are designed to fail and are made in China. Appliance repair was popular when you could buy replacement parts. Companies like Apple will not let you replace a battery! 8) Insurance. Be careful Most insurance companies ( homeowner and auto) are not set up to actually pay claims, instead they will spend billions on TV ads instead of paying legitimate claims. How many houses out of thousands that burned to the ground were rebuilt after the California fire disasters? 9) Debt! Do not use Credit cards or debt unless you have no alternative. Do not use 30 or more years mortgages, you pay for the house twice. having a low income and no debt is better than a high income with lots of debt.
