As a conservative, I’m actually trying my best to be optimistic in this era because, the way I see it, this comes and waves over time.
Starting in the 1960s, that was the groundbreaking decade of huge social changes, basically involving the civil rights movement, countercultural movements, and the emerging "generation gap."
Then came the 1970s, which was basically the most toxic and upsetting decade for America, as it involved geopolitical uncertainty, war, rebellious youth, and political scandals like with Richard Nixon.
But then came the 1980s, which was the Ronald Reagan Era. Even outside of the darkest events of that time, the 80s was the decade that had a strong sense of optimism and enthusiasm for the future, as it was the time the Cold War was almost over. That made the 80s a positive response to the toxic 70s.
And that positivity continued into the 1990s, which was the perfect decade for America because it was basically a utopia of liberals and conservatives peacefully coexisting in harmony. Almost no one was yelling and screaming at each other.
And that sense of harmony in the 90s that started in the 80s continued into the start of the new millennium. But then the tragedy of 9/11 happened, and I think that’s what led to a split or friction between liberals and conservatives, leading us back to the beginning in a cycle. So this point in time we’re living right now is basically the 70s part 2. What we need is a comeback to the 80s, because if we allow the 80s part 2 to come by, then maybe it will lead to the 90s part 2 as well.
