  2. @Elitist20  "Consequences" is really cute way to describe punitive government action in the form of using armed men to threaten you with violence and/or assault and imprison you. I guess you could argue all laws and government actions are just "consequences": - A whistleblower getting arrested for exposing corruption, "consequences". - A newspaper getting shut down for criticizing the government, "consequences". - A political opponent getting thrown into a gulag or disappeared, "consequences". - A women walking down the street at night while wearing a revealing dress and getting.... well, you already know. I can see why having to worry about your speech inviting government enforced "consequences" is such a yawn inducing idea, you're already policing your own speech all on your own, like a good boy. And if you have to do it, well than why not everyone; all they need is a little motivation. And isn't that what the government is for? The purpose of government isn't to protect silly little things like "individual rights"; and its certainly not for their citizens to "never feel unsafe a day in their life" - what a ridiculous goal. Nope, clearly the role of the government is to ensure everyone has consider the "consequences" of their actions - and thoughts. And nothing says "I'm all for free speech" quite like dispatching armed enforcers to punish people for hurting feelings. And even if those type of "consequences" end up being a little contradictory to freedom of speech, so what? When it comes to something as dangerous and destabilizing as dissenting words and people expressing their unfiltered thoughts, really the only solution is state-sanctioned intimidation enforced at gunpoint. Just another case of people facing "consequences". Although....maybe..... just maybe, it's not about justice, safety, order, or consequences. Maybe it's about pathetic, cowardly control.
