  1. Venezuela hasn't been able to even legitimately contest its control over Essequibo in more than a century. Guyana has been administering the territory since 1899, with zero input from Venezuela. The people thete have been Guyanese for over a century. They speak English not Spanish, their local governments are Guyanese not Venezuelan, their citizenship is Guyanese not Venezuelan, and every country in the world besides Venezuela recognizes it as Guyana's territory. Russia has a more legitimate claim to Alaska than Venezuela has to the Essequibo territory 🤦‍♂️
