  1. soil is where their stability and nutrients, water come from. through symbiotic relationships in the soil trees and other plants get some nutrients from fungi and bacteria that may not be water soluble such as nitrogen and in turn they trade sugars, extra sugars the plants do not need for these nutrients. using pores in the roots they absorb nutrient laden water which is how they get water and nutrients inside themselves. other than this they also use their roots as anchors to keep themselves stable and upright. water is what they need to transport nutrients around themselves. think about sap as blood its basically the same thing sap is even used to heal cuts in the same way blood has white blood cells. and also they need it for the chemical processes that keep the tree alive.
