  2.  @jonne7725  that's a myth perpetrated because of the fact that pines are tolerant of overly acidic/ overly alkaline soils that no other plants can grow in. pine needles and pine forests dont change the soil chemistry. the soil was already poor.

  4. false. pine needles are neutral. conifers tend to grow where soil is already to acidic for anything else. which is why conifer forests tend to be very acidic.

  11. plenty of pines here in dry california. and their cousins junipers grow all over the desert and are planted as shade trees and wing breakers on the highways to stop the sand.

  12. same thing for California. thank god for the rocky mountains. though you guys also have the Mogollon Rim to protect you and we have the sierra nevada aswell. thats why the saguaro is capable of growing in arizona. its just warm enough for large cacti to exist when you go south into mexico theres literally hundreds of big columnar cactus species you can find.
