  17. Here's another Dutchman. Don't shove our problems to another country. We'll have to do our bid and that will mean wind, solar and nuclear energy. The problem with some of my countrymen is that they don't want change that's going to hurt their wallet. The DonBass has recently discovered gas deposits so making sure that Ukraine wins this war also gives us more time to make the energy transition away for fossil fuels.

And yes all NATO countries will defend Lithuania, include the US. Attacking Lithuania would be opening Pandora's box because it would lift any restrictions for deploying NATO forces inside Ukraine.

There can be military cooperation with Sweden and Finland without being NATO members and there is nothing Erdogan can do about that.   41.  @evryatis9231  If necessary the Netherlands can reopen it's Groningen gas field. It still contains about 450 billion cubic meter of natural gas. Germany uses about 142 billion cubic meter of gas. So we could keep Germany afloat while we search for alternative sources of energy. No easy but doable.

  42.  @bachelor3846  It only concerns Russian goods so free railway transport is by no means hindered and therefore there is no breach of international law. The Lithuanian railroad company is simply complying to EU sanctions. No one is provoking Russia. It's Russia that provoked the rest of Europe by invading Ukraine.

  43.  @PaulV.  As prices for fossil fuel continue to rise, nations will start looking for alternative sources (domestic, renewable and nuclear). In the long term Russia is digging it's own grave. In the sort term global recession will cause a drop in demand for oil and therefore in price. Russia's economy heavenly relies on the export of fossil fuel. The economy of the EU is much more diverse and therefore less vulnerable to a recession than Russia.

The US is not like Russia that invades a satellite if things are not going their way. You obviously don't live in any of these countries. Of course Russia could not join. The only reason for them to ask was to set NATO checkmate because the defence does not apply when one member attacks an other. And since Russia does not have a good record when it comes to aggression towards it's European members, as demonstrated now, membership would have been a bad idea.
