  1. Agreed but kids, especially in dire circumstances like this show, need a payoff from their education right away. Not investing in a future that seems unlikely. Guaranteed college like these achievers programs. Paying internships. Even just meals if you show up to school. Parents without good jobs are just telling fairy tales about what these crappy schools can do for their future in a blighted area. There is no ladder to climb that they can see. You can't even get your HS degree and work in the steel mill that is closed or docks that are dying. Then you have to make enough money to move away or end up like the maintenance man or security guard who saw D'Angelo commit murder. Less decent people/small success stories left and the city festers.
