Hey Dave - the Constitutional Convention voted DOWN including self defense in the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment was for mutual defense not individual defense. The term "To Bear Arms" was a 16th Century British term that was used EXCLUSIVELY to refer to organized military formations l authorized and regulated militias like the one that put down Shays Rebellion in Massachusetts a few years earlier. Until recently that's the way our courts have interpreted the Second Amendment.
