This video is nice try of "balanced approach" to the problem , but , besides some facts - it fails to address the basic problems/causes. Of course , not even a series of two hours long videos can achieve total and absolute clarification of historic facts and powers and events that shaped the current situation , so I'm not criticizing in that sense. But , to portray this question as purely political (caused only by Serbs and Kosovo Albanians) is a bit hypocritical .
To address your first point from video description - there was a human rights abuses , but it started from Kosovo Albanians side as soon as Tito died (Kelmendi case - murder of Yugoslav conscript soldiers at sleep , by their Kosovo Albanian comrade - which was groomed to be secessionist/terrorist , in 1980). Trough the 1980's there was an enormous pressure on ethnic Serbs in Kosovo to sell their properties (gangster style) , which was "covered" and swept under the rug by authorities at the time , with an excuse of keeping "brotherhood & unity" between Yugoslav peoples (nations) and not stirring spirits in ever worsening economy and some political tensions (whole Yugoslavia). It was quiet ethnic cleansing of non Albanians and that prompted Milosevic to do what he has done (and to make popular move to assert himself as a leader). Kosovo Albanians (as other national minorities in Yugoslavia) had schools in their own language and with start of dissolution of Yugoslavia they stopped to go to schools (they organized some sort of domestic schools with "invented" curriculum) , which was one of the points they emphasize , as "oppression" . Some young Kosovo Albanians , as a result of such schooling , are convinced that Serbia invaded Kosovo .Real problems were slowly developing until 1998 and incursion of , so called , Kosovo Liberating Army (terrorist organization , according to US ) from Albania and Macedonia (using weapons from Albanian military , which was plundered during Albanian turmoils some years prior) , trained by SAS , French Foreign Legion and probably some US special forces. They were defeated (similar to the bay of Pigs in Cuba) , but they mobilized some locals (some were already involved) and the cells kept operating and killing (guerilla style) policeman and Serbian civilians . In the process of searching for those units , Albanian civilians vere injured and killed in police/military actions , some as collateral , some , unfortunately , with intention (they were known since 1980's protests for using human shields). However , numbers don't mach even closely to ethnically cleansed Serbs from previous two decades ,but by that time Serbs were already portrayed to be "bad guys" and US president had some problems over indiscretion in the oval office and war always makes money for US military complex and NATO was about to lose any significance and dissolve , so - let's bomb Serbs. Mind you , one million people from Ruanda died by various garden tools in 1995 , in about month , or two and no one got excited about "human rights" and such (not to mention current events in the middle East)...Kosovo Albanians are still engaged in ethnic cleansing (you can find all about it in UN reports about so called Kosovo) , beating , killing , arresting Serbs and wiping out graveyards and other multi century old signs of Serbian presence in the Kosovo and Metohija. Purpose of so called "independent Kosovo" is to be a relatively safe place for Bondsteel , the biggest US Base in Europe and to keep Serbs occupied with problems. It has nothing to do with Kosovo Albanians well being . In the meantime , that "state" is supported by money from diaspora (original lobbying in the US for the Albanian cause was payed by drug dealing Albanian mafia bosses in the 1980's). Their young people are leaving in enormous numbers , because they can't find a job (especially since EU put their"passport" on , so called , white list) and in a few decades their "independence" will be meaningless with population of few hundred thousand . Now , they claim population of 1,5 million , or more (which may be true when diaspora is included) but the mobile phone signals (with compensation for small children and very old people) saying about 700 000 (data from two years ago). People from Kosovo that are currently working in Western Europe and North America will not come back and their children for sure.
My remark about hypocrisy isn't personal , but rather linked to ever present westerner hands in Balkan affairs. Kosovo wouldn't be a problem if westerners didn't fund it , encourage it and organize it (nor complete dissolution of Yugoslavia , in my opinion , but that's different topic).
I've never heard a second point to be brought up as an argument about Kosovo.
In general , they (as far as I'm concerned) may get an broad autonomy , but never an independence . World is changing , will see what will happen in next 25 years ...
