It's coherent from India to buy a lot of Rafales, if they want to stay independent from any western influence (France has no leverage on India and doesn't need it, but F35 or F16/F18/F22 would tie politically India too much to USA), or russian or chinese influence, for what matters. Other possible choice for India would be Grippen, or maybe even Typhoon.

@royjaber571 I don't think the Grippen is a better option, I think it is an available option. ;) Grippen and Rafale have both a political advantage for India : few or no political strings attached.

@TheInfamousMrFox Well, actually France has around 200 planes for combat, they are from 4th and 4.5 generations. F35 5th generation promises are still not fulfilled, or combat proven... Also, France has its own local plane industry, contrary to UK. Several projects and companies are common between France and UK, that's why the comparison is quite difficult and a conflict unlikely : SCALP/Storm Shadow, MBDA. France has a huge weakness in MLRS, but can produce domestically more agile 155mm artillery systems (Caesar), especially since the war in Ukraine (from 2/month to 8/month). However, in storage France and UK have both around the same amount of M270 (57 for France and 64 for UK, initially received), the difference is that UK modernized more of its M270. Also, Londres is far closer from France than Paris is close to UK. France and UK submarines fleets are almost the exact same size. In the end, both armies are quite similar, maybe the more similar among other armies in Europe. Even their tanks are quite similar (not many produced, not in production anymore, few exported...) and are from the same generation (1990s...).

@anushkachhetri2363 I dont know which plane is better regarding maintenance, as said maintenance also depends of the country needs. But from an industrial point of view, the Grippen is a terrible choice for India. There are many pieces of it which come from UK and USA, and any Grippen exportation needs authorization from both of these countries. Rafale is a far better choice regarding this point.

So yeah, France submarines are going to be more modern than UK pretty soon (6 modern 'Suffren" submarines for France, 7 modern "Astute" for UK, in the end, as I said, close, knowing that Suffren are slightly more modern than Astute - 7-10 years difference). @royjaber571 It is likely that the Rafale is slightly better than the Grippen, however the question is more "which plane is the most adapted for India". ;) From a political and industrial point of view, Rafale is superior to Grippen, and maybe from a fighting power point of view. Idk regarding buying costs and maintenance though

is this a joke ? Only 7 real accidents involved the Rafale since its first flight (of the earlier versions) in 1986 ! That's not comparable with the "new" F35.
