Agreed. The cry for a strong leader is what brought us fascism.

I disagree. Unanimity is a fail save mechanism to protect small countries. Without it, they lose their right to decide and become colonies.

@Focke42 it is the childish need of a parent figure telling you what to do/think to be released of your own responsibility.

@watershed8685 the commission is elected by the EU parliament. It is called representative democracy.

@vulcanmemes9770 I associate the cry for a strong leader with it. The strong leader is at the center of fascism.

@ooi97 it is an election. Parliament votes. You don’t need two or more candidates to elect some one.
2
@RoseSiames to my knowledge, the US senate also gets only one candidate to vote on for the Supreme Court, or similar. Is this also like the Soviet Union?

Netherlands left wing? When did this happen?

@hinkelstein1494 I understand the intend and the reason behind it, but I also see massive risks for smaller nations to feel ignored. How does a nation like Malta protect its interests?
1
@scar4361 because it benefits Germany when Czechs are aligned to their interests, and it is much easier with cooperation than force

@miguelpadeiro762 the EU is a net benefit to all members. But participation and the ability to shape and control its development are essential. A Union of 26 nations can only work if all have a voice that is heard. Compromise is key, so all feel respected.

What sanction effects feeding the south? Food exports from Russia are not sanctioned.
1
@Jay...777 so no sanctions on food.
1
@Jay...777 18% inflation next year? Where did you get this number? And it isnt sanctions hitting the UK, but homegrown problems (neglect of the public sector, Brexit...).

@ooi97 first, the council is not made up by the head of states (usually). I can not remember Queen Elisabeth II going to meetings before Brexit. More often, it is the head of government. Second, the council appoints a candidate for commission, which is then voted on by EU parliament. So the commission is elected by the parliament, while the council presents candidates.
