  1. Turning the company profitable will hurt the US economy. Trains provide a service bigger than the profit they might bring in, increasing the wealth of the nation. Why is the US the only first world country not capable of running a decent long distant train service? Their high speed network is smaller than Portugal!

  2.  @deprogramm  Big China and Russia use trains. Difference is: government invests and does not expect profits from the company, as they know tax revenue will compensate. Trains need huge starting investments into infrastructure, more than companies can afford. USA`s geography is perfectly suited for high speed railways.
