  5. If you slap 40% on EU cars, you have to enforce them on ALL car imports. WTO MFN rule dictate you have to treat everybody equally. That is the reason the EU has no choice but to put 40% tariffs on lamb, because if they do not, they have to reduce tariffs for EVERYBODY. WTO forbids discrimination.

  6. There is no EU government, it is a Union of sovereign nations. The UK exports 40% of it total exports to the EU27, the other way around it is only 8%. Also, the EU keeps all its free trade agreements, while the UK loses them all. It hurts the EU economy, but far less.

  8.  @nathd1748  The UK is not able to produce enough food for its population for centuries and is dependent on imports. Best case scenario, UK can feed 50% of its population. Cheaper food means lower quality.
