@akinhetito military use does not care about economics. Civil use does. Those reactors are way too expensive for commercial use. As is nuclear in general. Building a nuclear reactor is the most expensive form of electricity production.

That’s why you combine it with wind?

Hickley point was a shitshow before Brexit. And the construction of the reactor in France is a shitshow, too.

If nuclear reactors get private insurance, I am fine with them. But as they are impossible to insure, the government gives them a free pass. and that is something I disagree with.
5
@twenty-fifth420 if the risk is near zero, but the costs are infinite, no insurance will cover it. For that reason, nuclear power plants are exempt from the obligation to insure their risk.
5
Because when humans are involved, we are sure protocols are always followed? What regulations should be loosened?

@ThePhiphler What is the issue with carbon? Or do you mean carbondioxide? Which is both 0 for solar and wind, too, for power generation.
2
Wind and solar are build without government handouts, because they are profitable. Nuclear power plants are not.

@toughbiblepassages9082 germany runs on a 50%+ renewable grid.
1
@alexdoan273 it is far too expensive.
1
@alexdoan273 yes. The costs per kWh are much higher for a newly build nuclear reactor compared to both solar and wind.
1
@alexdoan273 what are you talking about? Even in the long term, nuclear is far more expensive. You spend 20 billion in the hope to get the reactor is ready 10-20 years later. You may spend 20 billion more, because it is so expensive. The prime example: Hickley point C. It will increase the electricity price in the Uk when (or if) it goes online

@alexdoan273 thanks for the response, rather uncommon

@scottkidder9046 if a nuclear plant blows close to a city, the city will be inhabitable for decades. Not to mention long term health problems. Furthermore, your hurricane example does not work. Hurricane is not a man made accident, so the insurance is not liable for all damages caused by the hurricane.
