Johnson and Hunt are escalating so quickly not even Farage can catch up right away. Throwing the backstop away completely removes the last fig leaf that they care at all for Northern Ireland. Another insult to the other parts of the UK, especially as Johnson likes to claim he will unite the country. Worst part is, this way such mad statements become normality. Similar to Trump, what was extreme yesterday is normal today, and become moderate tomorrow. A frightening development, too often seen in nations losing its democratic institutions.

@ADifferentBias The next financial cycle of the EU has to be decided soon. If the UK is still a member, this issue will get even more complex. The extension to October is almost at the limit the EU can offer without serious harm to its future.

@georgeorwell3532 The referendum in catalonia was deemed illegal by the court. Every nation has the right to enforce its law on its soil. If something happened against EU law, the EJC will rule so. You dreaming of crushing Scots tells a lot about your worldview.

@georgeorwell3532 There we have the core of the problem. It does not matter what Scotland or Northern Ireland wants. England decides. This is the reason why the EU is much more democratic that the UK: every single member of the Union, no matter how small, has a seat in the council and veto rights to prevent bigger members enforcing policies hurting them. In the UK, risking a civil war in a part of the country is apparently a price worth paying, because it will be payed by someone else.
