First past the post was always advertised as it gives stability and keeps the fanatics out of parliament. Tories and Labour both uniting several factions of the political landscape, while those are split in other countries. Not anymore. Both Labour and Tories are taken over by the fanatics FPTP should prevent. Both parties are far from appealing to a majority of the population. A system where less than 30% of the votes are enough to get a majority in parliament is in deep need for reform. The UK political landscape is now close to other EU countries, with several medium to small sized parties presenting different interests. But the UK system is not fit for the purpose to represent the will of the people in parliament.
