Indeed. British politics are irrelevant. Getting Northern Ireland on your side as well as showing the USA who is really caring for the GFA is the goal. The EU does not care if Johnson will win the next 10 elections.

Cutting support by 20 pounds a week.

@richielee4670 The ECJ is already accepted. The treaty is signed.

@benjamin2149 Trump was handled quiet brilliantly by the EU, he was shown to be weak and only words. You want the EU to be macho, because you think this is a sign of strength. But to quote a German saying: what does the Oak tree care if a pig rubs itself on it. The Concessions are linked to demands. The EU gets what it wants. The UK is running out of arguments against the protocol. The only thing they now have left are ideological problems, no practical ones anymore.

@benjamin2149 No. The EU just removed any practical issues with the protocol. Now the only thing that remains is purely ideologically, as rightly stated by NI business representatives. And only the ideologists care for such things, and they are in a minority. It becomes rather difficult to argue for UK (internationally, not nationally) what their issue with the protocol is. And that is the game here: having the US on your side. Because US+EU vs UK is not even a competition.

@benjamin2149 Smash the table and unpredictability is what macho is. I think it is a sign of weakness.

Keep the protocol intact till May, then have Sinn Fein as the biggest party in NI and as your natural ally. If the NI first minister says the protocol is in the interest of NI and everything is fine, how can the UK government argue internationally that it is not?

The UK is dependent on French/Dutch/Belgium electricity imports. If they cut the supply, lights go out in the UK. It will of course have nothing to do with Brexit, there is a worldwide energy crisis, havent you heard? So it is not a matter of the protocol and the agreement. UK is dependent on EU ports for international imports, as its own ports are to small. If they forbid UK imports being processed by their ports, the UK is cut of the world market. Again, nothing to do with Brexit. There is an international logistics and container crisis, and the EU runs short on HDV drivers, havent you heard? So it is not a matter of the protocol and the agreement. The EU can crush the UK in weeks without using the protocol, and the UK can do nothing against it.

All the EU has to do is keep the protocol intact till May next year. Than Sinn Fein takes over the government in NI, and the DUP will get crushed. It will be internationally impossible to justify the UK government breaking the NI protocol against the will of the NI first minister and biggest party.
