@andyinsuffolk A London based bank has more access to the markets of 27 other countries than a New York based bank has to the other 49 states. Who claims the EU service market has failed? There is no Free Trade agreement in the world that comes close to the access the single market gives in terms of services. https://www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/explainers/options-uk-trading-relationship-eu

@iakona23 Because Israel has a network of trade agreements, build up over the last decades, and the necessary infrastructure to to process imports/exports. The UK`s international trading framework is provided by the EU, and is lost with Brexit. Same with infrastructure: a good part of UK`s non EU trade is processed via Rotterdam (more capacity than UK`s three biggest ports combined). The EU, as a huge single market, also gives protection against trade wars only the USA or China can provide to their citizens as well. In short: the UK can`t because it lacks both the international agreements, as well as the infrastructure, and it will take decades to just come back to the position it is now.

There are zero countries in the world trading only on WTO terms with the EU. And the UK is a service industry, while WTO mainly covers goods, so the UK needs FTAs because it has nothing else to export.

@robertbrowne4049 Trump is not the boss, he is the US president, with rather limited powers. Checks and balances.

The GDP per capita of Israel is 20% lower than UKs, in other words, it is 20% poorer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)_per_capita Also, there is Northern Ireland. This is the issue the UK has to solve, or there will be neither a trade agreement with the EU, nor the USA. By the way, there are zero countries in the world which trade on WTO terms with the EU. http://ec.europa.eu/world/agreements/Login.do?message=SessionExpired

@iakona23 How will the UK be able to readjust quickly, if it just started to train its trade negotiators? And where will be the necessary infrastructure for customs be build to replace Rotterdam? Planing has not even started, and such projects need at least 5 years, best case scenario. Finally, what trading opportunities? EU free trade deals already cover almost any major player, in case of no deal, neither a trade deal with the USA or EU is available, and USA also said that the UK has to chose between China and the USA. http://trade.ec.europa.eu/doclib/docs/2012/june/tradoc_149622.pdf

@iakona23 There are exactly Zero countries the UK trades on WTO terms with. And the UK will not be ready by October. https://www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/explainers/options-uk-trading-relationship-eu The German car industry`s first priority is to secure the integrity of the single market. It is ready to sacrifice the UK market for that. You are repeating the old argument of they need us more then we need them? A simple number: 8% of EU27 exports go to the UK, while 40% of UK´s exports go to the EU27. The UK needs the EU more, by a big margin, and unlike the UK, the EU27 keeps all the trade deals with the rest of the world. In case of no deal, countries like Japan or Canada already explained they have no interest in a trade deal, and US congress declared it will veto one. Besides, UK`s emergency no deal plan is to lower almost all tariffs to zero. Why should any country have an interest in a Trade Agreement if it already has access to the UK market? Goes for the german car industry, too.

@LearningFast Statistics proof that US food standards are far worse than EUs. Chlorinated Chicken is a symptom of it. https://www.ecowatch.com/13-ways-the-eu-beats-the-u-s-on-food-safety-1881850175.html

Well, US congress says no, and US congress decides. So no trade deal.
