No, it wasn’t. Till the 18th century it was part of the Ottoman Empire. Following your logic, Crimea should belong to Turkey (and Russia should give Kaliningrad to Germany). Russia accepted Ukraine territory in the Budapest memorandum, and in return, Ukraine gave away its nukes.

@eastern2western so why haven’t they done so already? 6 months of fighting for Bachmut. Reason: Bachmut is entrenched. Artillery can not break heavy entrenchment.
3
Considering attackers have to outnumber defenders at least 3:1, this seems like a bad strategy for Russia.

Copying the German world war 1 strategy doesn’t sound like a road to victory to me…

@Surfbird11 the question is: why Bachmut, why not anywhere else in the region?
1
@Thea-gj2or Russian advance? Where? They are in retreat for months now.
1
@bernardedwards8461 you claimed Crimea ALWAYS has been Russian. This is simply false.
1
@bernardedwards8461 the question is answered: Crimea belongs to Ukraine, as agreed by Russia in the Budapest memorandum. Pacta sunt servanda. Alternatively, Russia can give Ukraine back its nukes.

@lexluger6904 of course many more can be shipped to Ukraine. They are produced worldwide in high quantities.

@lexluger6904 155 mm Shells are not very expensive. And they are produced in mass quantities in Europe (much more than the US produces itself). 155 mm are not US Shells, but NATO Standard. Rheinmetall (German) produces those, too. And don’t take German army as anything to go by. They are broke. German industry on the other hand is producing and selling to others. Other than that, Spain and South Korea are major producers, too.

@harmless6813 liking 1 hour power point presentation? Good choice.
1
@eastern2western Russia is also not even close to encircle Bachmut after 6 months. If this was the goal, it failed.
1
@Dan-Martin Which apparently is not enough, as Russia is retreating. What is artillery worth if you can not hit something and your munition depots are blown to the sky by HIMARS?
1
@yellowtunes2756 Considering that the Russian first guard tank army donated all its tanks to Ukraine, and Ukraine has lots of nice anti tank weapons like Panzerfaust or Javelin, it is not a tank vs. 3 guys with a AK47. Its Russian convicts been blown to pieces by M777, PzH2000 and Himars.
