@crissd8283 In the past, the person in charge of certification was paid by Boeing, but chosen by the FAA, working for the FAA and reported to the FAA. Today, as it was with the 737 MAX, the person in charge of certification was paid, chosen and reporting to Boeing. The FAA only got a report that was approved by the Boeing Board. The FAA was cut significantly, and control was taken away from them. So the case of the 737MAX is proof that government regulation and protection works (as it did in the past) as long as you fund your regulators. Cut funds, as happened with the FAA, and you get the 737Max as an result.
