You can't have it both ways. Abortion usually involves embryos, and if they're children, then so are the vast numbers of embryos that get destroyed in IVF. It's very revealing- if one opposes abortion but not IVF, do they really want to "save the babies," or do they just want to punish people for having sex?
40
@apap4950 That seems like special pleading. IVF inherently leads to a huge number of destroyed embryos. If one thinks that embryos are children, then how is it justifiable?
15
@maxverstappen7160 Not this again. That sort of thing is referring to migration levels that could hypothetically sustain a working-age population. It has nothing to do with the "Great Replacement" silliness.
12
@ukraine_will_win_ Men were targeted as well, although not as often.
12
@maxverstappen7160 There is no such thing as "replacement immigration."
9
@apap4950 Because the pregnant woman who gets killed didn't give consent. Those laws were written with violent third-parties in mind. Seeing the two procedures as morally different makes no sense. If embryos are the same thing as babies, then neither IVF nor abortion are permissible.
9
@apap4950 Euthanasia laws often hinge on consent. A pregnant woman is the biological host to the embryo or fetus, with all that entails. The decision is hers, first and foremost.
9
@apap4950 Embryos aren't "someone," as they lack personhood, and there is no "hit man" involved. The double homicide laws were written with violent third-parties in mind, taking away a woman's pregnancy without her consent. There's no harm in not being born, but there is harm in ending someone's wanted pregnancy without the pregnant woman's consent.
8
Maybe, somehow, there's a Mormon in charge of that sort of thing.
7
@apap4950 Indeed, and embryos have no rights. It's a double homicide because the pregnant woman's consent has been violated.
7
It's part of the west, but in any case, this is no failure.
6
Embryos aren't babies, they have neither innocence nor guilt, the "heartbeat" isn't what you think (although it doesn't matter), and there's no harm in not being born.
5
@SyGardner Embryos aren't babies.
5
I've watched abortions multiple times, on video. That didn't change my mind at all. Embryos & fetuses aren't babies. Lots of medical procedures are gross, but in any case there's no harm in not being born.
5
You want to punish people for having sex?
5
Women don't want to be treated as objects, so instead (some) men prefer actual objects? That's a better state of affairs.
4
There's no harm in not being born.
4
@orionfernandes4587 There's no difference. Nobody minds not being born.
4
@tuathaigh-aa That's not how the math works. If this sort of thing was done to half of Greenland's fertile population, that would mean a substantial portion of women, but by no means every woman in the country.
4
Lots of people in CA have guns.
4
@freewheeler1728 True, but it should always be consensual.
3
@AAMLer I'm not lying.
3
Demons don't exist.
3
@AlanWattResistance That doesn't follow. There are humans. Demons are superstitious nonsense.
3
That's 'Bama for you.
3
@AlanWattResistance Thanks to mythology? No way. Religion stops a thinking brain.
3
@AlanWattResistance There is no supernatural.
3
@AlanWattResistance Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Find me some empirical evidence for the supernatural.
3
@Pilkiesmaknmusic How so?
3
@darkbrightnorth True, but remember that Colombia (with two "o"s, not "Columbia") is in the west. Also, it's "fewer" children, not "less." Besides, Colombia's Total Fertility Rate (births-per-woman) has dropped like a brick, in common with most of Latin America.
3
@LongliveEDL They went by terms like "Dutch Wives," "Dames de voyage," and "Damas de viaje." Apparently, sailors would make them as masturbatory aids. Also, down with the EDL.
3
@SyGardner Nobody minds not being born.
2
Firearms aren't illegal in the UK. There is a lot of red tape, though.
2
@arcticdragon104 I grew up in Dallas. The weather in the summer is actually very dangerous on many days. I don't miss it.
2
@apap4950 How so?
2
Vast majority? That's not true, not even close.
2
It's more like prudish religious types are getting angry.
2
@AlanWattResistance Hitler sharply restricted abortion rights. Also, embryos aren't babies yet, and your comment about "promiscuity" says a lot. It's about sex, not abortion per se. I see this again and again.
2
@lucasmejia3033 True, but things happen. Men refuse condoms, slip them off, beat women who don't do what the men want, etc. Also, there's no reason to punish women if they don't prevent pregnancy due to their own error.
2
@pieterveenders9793 No, birth control (family planning) goes back long before that.
2
@dlariby It's arbitrary. There's nothing intrinsic about certain words having certain effects. What makes said words "bad," and why are they ranked?
1
@dlariby Satan? Seriously?
1
@dlariby The idea of satan is preposterous.
1
God is imaginary.
1
No. The woman's body is the one being occupied, ravaged, and sometimes ruined by pregnancy.
1
*Colombia, with a second "o."
1
God is imaginary.
1
Baby?
1
@Shannon_Moore I have, and I do.
