He tried to communicate with them by speaking a few phrases in Xhosa, a language spoken in South Africa! I cannot fathom why he thought that would work.

@avinavkrishna It's a reference to "dry humor," i.e. humor delivered with little/no emotion, to contrast with the absurdity of the statement.

@muhammaddel Clever, but I think that Federation worlds all have a "link language," as we've seen throughout Earth history. When dealing with alien species, translator technology usually can do the job. Of course, I wouldn't put it past this clown to not even think of that, and feel that yes, the Bible would transcend language.
