Besides, the rates are higher per-capita in rural areas, and GOP-run cities/areas are also among the worst. For example, Fresno and Bakersfield are much worse than LA, SF, etc.

Leftists have always known the importance of an armed proletariat. Also, again, rates of violence are in some cases higher in GOP-leaning cities. The point is that neoliberal capitalist parties are unable/unwilling to address these issues, as usual.

  11. The relevant policies are often made at the state level, and the worst such states are usually GOP-run. Also, besides, some cities and rural areas are GOP-run, with worse levels of violence. The most dangerous places in CA are GOP-run Bakersfield and Fresno, which are worse than LA & SF/Oakland. It's a non-partisan problem.

Many relevant policies (I'm not necessarily referring to guns) are made at the state level. If it was all a matter of "blue areas in red states" making red states the most violent, why aren't blue states the worst?

  27.  @tommyofthehillpeople  Violent crime rates (and crime rates overall) are usually worst in the red states, with a few exceptions (New Mexico, usually a blue state, has one of the worst rates of violent crime, and Colorado for whatever reason has the highest rates of property crime). The bail system only serves to punish people who are too poor to make bail. Do you know what it's like on Riker's Island, and what that does to people? As for plea deals, over 90% of criminal cases end in plea bargains. That's awful, as that punishes people who are stuck with (deliberately) overworked public defenders. Defendants lack confidence in beating a charge, and so they usually plead out, including to charges of which they are not actually guilty (or have mitigating circumstances, etc.) The point is that neoliberal capitalist parties are unable/unwilling to address these needs; however, lurid reporting shouldn't make us forget that the Great Crime Decline that began in the early 1990s is mostly still with us. Yes, that includes homicide.
