@gordong.5154 He/we had to bail out farmers thanks to those stupid tariffs (and yes, unfortunately, some of said tariffs are still in place).

No, it was the Trumpists who abandoned the deal.

@johng.sprague4524 Not so; Iran's nuclear program (which is not even a weapons program; they were giving up something they never had) was to be the most heavily monitored in the world. It was a surprising step towards peace from an administration that, like all US administrations, was very belligerent (directly or via proxy). Israel is also not an ally. Among other things, they developed nuclear weapons in secret using stolen American material and technology. Netanyahu has also talked about the US being easy to manipulate, although I'm not claiming that Israel is "in charge." The US is definitely the stronger actor that uses Israel as a client state to smash any kind of independent political movement, from Nasser to the present day. The tail does not wag the dog! Besides that, Israel is not a democracy- their Palestinian helots can't vote, but they live under military occupation every day.

@johng.sprague4524 The US doesn't need to have a foothold in the Middle East. Should others have a foothold here? That goes double for trying to play the Great Game and unifying other countries against Iran. That's exactly how terrible things happen, and yet the solution is always interventionism. You're right regarding the Saudis, and funding anyone in the region (outside of humanitarian efforts!). Strengthening ties with Israel, India, and anybody are important, based on free and honest commerce/interaction with others, and entangling alliances with none.
