The headline reads like the homeless woman had a hose.
1
That's not the definition of insanity. Insanity means not knowing what's real and what isn't.

@DerrickW30 Stop shouting.
1
@AlvinBraggIsRacist Asylums barely exist anymore. Deinstitutionalization began under Carter, but it was ramped up and finished under Reagan. Much of the country's homeless problem began then.
1
@vinylvishrecords Living down by the river is more feasible if one has a van. (I couldn't resist.)
1
@debbiegannon5735 Anecdotes aren't data.
1
@palepride7530 I'm not sure what era you're referring to, but crime in the US started increasing in the mid-20th century, before peaking around 1990 or so. There's been an upswing in homicide rates since the pandemic, but it's still well below the peak. The same is true for most crimes like this, lurid reporting notwithstanding.

Stop shouting.

@jeffreyzimler7978 Shortly before the pandemic hit, Newsom signed legislation making it easier to build ADUs (garage apartments and whatnot). The potential for that in L.A. is enormous. In the big picture, though, goddamn NIMBYs make it extremely difficult to construct affordable housing.
1
@firstlast8258 That has very little to do with it.

??

would *have

@yvonnelee4385 I think that we're talking past one another.
1
@yvonnelee4385 Would I be fine with proprietors spraying people with hoses? No, I wouldn't. It's a dire situation.
1
@yvonnelee4385 No, but that doesn't mean that I necessarily approve with certain actions in that regard.
1
Break the power of the NIMBYs!
1
I have no idea what that means.
1
Figuratively, not literally.
1
Schadenfreude!
1
Compton is a separate city, but that's beside the point. Is Caruso an advocate for affordable housing? That's one of the only ways to reduce homelessness.
1
@Tim.1113 That's not an answer.
1
@Zalis116 No.
1
@Zalis116 Come to think of it, I wouldn't put it past them.

@C4TC4T You have a problem with needle exchange? Do you want to see outbreaks of HIV and hepatitis? There's no way to stop the drug flow other than taking the money out of it by ending Prohibition. If it's that valuable, the product will find a way. I'm not sure what you're referring to regarding trespassing (are you referring to homeless people trespassing as they move around town?), and cops' jobs aren't exactly good (most of the time). The lack of mental health treatment is a big part of the problem, and the lack of affordable housing is another, and Republicans seem pretty hostile to both of those. Democrats are not much better, as usual.
1
"Sanctuary cities" have nothing to do with this.
1
Stop shouting.
1
@SmogginMog You never learned netiquette?
1
Why just Democrats' residences? Republicans are no fans of affordable housing.

Watch the full video on Twitter. The Proud Boys barged across the street.
1
@laurareed8412 No, Antifa did not destroy any cities. Nobody did. There was civil unrest across the country for months, but don't exaggerate. Lots of people from various groups have indeed gotten in trouble for it, so no, the government isn't letting "them" get away with it. If anything, they're letting the Proud Boys and others get away with assaults. Who are "these people" who are going to start breaking into someone's homes?
1
@Alex c It looks like the work of observers/videographers, etc.
1
@Alex c Cite? I probably would have encountered people in these roles during my years of firsthand experience.
