  1.  @aliceDarts  The funny thing is, even in the US (and probably in other gun-friendly countries, as there are multiple others), a lot of people say "clip" instead of "magazine." An earlier generation of rifles (like the M1 of WW2 fame) used a row of cartridges "clipped" together, and soldiers (or whoever) would load the rifle by inserting the clip through an opening in the top of the rifle. The term stuck!

True... as are, from the same general time period, monarchies (the Ottoman Empire, see the Armenian/Greek/Assyrian Genocide; the recently defeated Russian Empire, see the White Terror); liberal/conservative capitalist governments (the British Raj in India had famines all the time; see also the US empire in the Philippines and Haiti and Central America, etc., the French in parts of Africa, and so on); right wing warlord types (Chiang Kai-Shek); and so on.

  8. It's so fascinating to imagine what would have happened if the Mensheviks and/or SRs (who were popular with the peasants) had carried the day, and/or if the anarchists had not been crushed. The Green movements in the civil war generally referred to peasants' groups who were happy to see the landlords gone, but didn't want to be run by a party either. They weren't necessarily anarchists, but they wanted as much local control/autonomy as possible.
