  1. Do a little reading about the Great Crime Decline that began in the 90s, and is still with us (thankfully). It has little to do with policing, and more to do with things like removal of lead from gasoline (but it's still in substandard housing, and there's a lot of that in Oak Cliff). Crime dropped across the Western world, and that includes countries that never went through the "Tough On Crime" orgy that the US did, where we've ended up with roughly a quarter of the world's prisoners.

Corporal punishment is counterproductive (every major medical association makes this clear), and keep in mind that the Great Crime Decline that began in the 90s is still with us. A major cause of crime (while I'm on the subject) is lead exposure, and I suspect that there's a lot of that in Oak Cliff.

  6. I wouldn't be surprised if Oak Cliff has high rates of lead exposure/poisoning, as well. That's a huge cause of crime.
