It's called hypocrisy, considering how many people from these countries went abroad for opportunity in the past, or who became refugees.

@kirkh666joejoe Exactly. Workers of the world have more in common with one another than they do with the ruling class. Don't scapegoat your fellows!

There were tons of those documentaries in the post-9/11 era, and not just then.

@mattstroker USAID saves lives, and, quite frankly, desperation is what pushes a lot of people into the migrant stream.

That's authoritarian, but not fascist. Fascists scapegoat powerless minorities, among many other characteristics.

Fascists tend to dismiss the term, saying that it doesn't mean anything.

@MaximusWolfe If there's an advantage to trying to avoid (or weaken) a label, then they would try to do that.

People said that about my ancestors when my predecessors came to the US. The nativists were wrong then, and they're wrong now.

@3Kiwiana Then legalize it. Economists across the spectrum make it clear that migration is the best poverty-fighting development possible, on both ends of the equation. Lots of countries these days have far too few visas available for lower-skilled workers, and there's also a nativist fear of refugees/asylees (people don't consider that they might be in that position someday). As for culture, many countries are diverse and do just fine. There's nothing innate about cultures, and they are always subject to change, even internally.
