It doesn't work that way.

It doesn't work that way, and economists try and try to explain it.

Would you listen to economists?

Sadly.

Economists know better.

@Tyler-lu4vr These tariffs are bad news for Californians as well, and indeed for nearly everyone in the US. (I'm not sure what you're trying to say regarding California, but that's neither here nor there.)

@Tyler-lu4vr Tariffs are taxes on importers, not foreign companies. A tariff then becomes a tax on American consumers. It's not the same as corporate taxes; those don't increase the costs of goods sold. A company might raise prices in response to higher taxes, but not usually, or at least not by the same amount that occurs due to tariffs.

The piper, rather.

Lots of people are now trying to justify voting against their own interests.

@Tyler-lu4vr That's not a rebuttal. Also, what are you trying to say regarding Holiday Inn Express? What's the significance?

@Tyler-lu4vr I am an American, I don't live under a rock, and you didn't answer the question.

The prices of domestic produce, which is not necessarily the same breeds of avocados/chilies/etc., will go up as well. Tariffs are backward.

You don't seem to know what communism is.

@aubadthe2750 Economic nationalism is backward. Unfortunately, populists (left or right) continue to extol it.
1
To the extent that that's even true, it will still harm consumers. Tariffs are backward, and retaliatory tariffs don't help. Countries should drop them, unilaterally. Singapore did it. Just because your trade partner puts rocks in its harbor, thus making trade more difficult, that doesn't mean that you should do the same.

@MrMcguire89 What does?
