Screw the cowbell joke this song has been with me for most all of my life and it still has the same effect on me. It's HAUNTING!

Silk Sonic with an almost "Imperials" Sound at some points.. IMHO. It's nice to hear some great music coming out. Why do the women all have such very similar styles? I guess it's the flavor of the producers this quarter. Need more actual musicians and different flavors. Just stuck in the same old same old IMHO. But there were some real stand out pieces in there too.

@PeterPatterson-vt2cx There's a Full Documentary on Kieth Green on You Tube that tells all about it. His life and the life of two of his children and some others that were with them were cut short that afternoon. God took them home. Praise Jesus that we will meet him if we wish later on when we graduate to the Real Life!

"The parts are all in Stereo". That's because the Cars were "Moving In Stereo". And "His hair cut is AMAZING!" lol. (i love you Rick).

YES!!! MICHAEL!! FINALLY he's getting the credit I've been raving about for years now!! Not to say he didn't get credit back in the day when he was so huge in the producing game after Chris Cross. But for a man of HUGE talent like him to be left off the roster of "THIS GUY!" credentials would be a SIN! BUT for me it hasn't just been Michael's gifts in the studio (But wow what a guy!!) it's been HIS HEART! Yes HIS HEART! Why? Because he's in LOVE with Jesus Christ!! He found something that he's been trying to tell the world about just like so very many all the way back to those first 12 Apostles and Paul! He and his wife Stormie. (Yes that's his wife's real name LOL). Michael wrote, sang and produced something like six or so Albums of his own work and a LOT of his Wife's work often together. IT'S BEYOND!! SERIOUSLY! If you like geniuses in music and you want to be floored as to why and or how Michael didn't get more recognition for the FANTASTIC work he did of his own then CHECK OUT HIS STUFF!! The albums "White Horse, Mainstream, Adam Again, and Conversations (an instrumental album) THEN his albums with his wife Stormie 1978: Seasons of the Soul 1980: The Builder 1982: Mainstream 1982: Omartian Odyssey: The Musical Journey of Michael and Stormie Omartian (compilation) 1983: Together Live (with 2nd Chapter of Acts)...... (Yes I took this from Wikipedia LOL) Oh MY LORD! If YOU have NOT heard any of these works. GET ON IT!! The SONGS!!! WOW! "Here He Comes" The intro to it is off the sanity register IMHO! My Phone Alarm is the song "Ain't You Glad" Then there's the ever SO pop like "No Matter What" and the Hilarious "Big Time" But so many more Oh man!! I'm a frustrated Writer and singer Musician. whose found the Truth "Jesus Christ" my heart and desire is to try and make others step into getting to know their creator that is just waiting to take hold of each of us and dine and live together in a real relationship. Just like Michael's I've recorded some of my own stuff after touring for many years with bands in clubs everywhere. My music is always touted as something to be heard and worth the time. I'm grateful for that. But I live in Calgary Canada so getting a chance to reach someone like Michael is basically impossible. And other producers just don't seem to be there. Sigh.... Look into Jesus! He's got the Answer!

IMHO. I can hear a strange high pitched metallic overbuzz type sound with the 11's which seems to carry on after the chord making it sound less tight. I always thought the thicker string would produce a thicker tone. (maybe it matters with a cleaner sound but....). Here I heard a buzzing type sound from them and not as tight. The over all over tones improved to me from 11's to 9's but I couldn't hear much change to the 8's.

Okay, for the first and only time I'm going to speak as the musician singer songwriter I am and have been for years. We shouldn't have to STRAIN TO APPRECIATE THE NEW MUSIC!!! Good Music should jump out and grab you! Speak to you on some level other than just basic "construction analysis". (Rick is Awesome!!) Sorry I can't hear anything cohesive in any of this. It's always LIKE IT'S TRYING TOO HARD. It's forced music with no direction and no common value. All the sounds in the world do not make up for great song writing. This isn't great song writing. I'm going to say something everyone will think is incredibly arrogant and stupid but who cares when the industry has lost it's ability to realize what a good song consists of. I have better songs than all of these in my throw away catalog. Songs need to be about something with the same dynamic highs and lows that have emotional content as a good book or story. They need context dynamics and hooks. Hooks hooks hooks!! And I heard two in this whole mess of "Music". But they didn't even utilize them. They were washed down with gimmick sounds and production. If you haven't been recommended by "Insert well know persons name here" or sold "Insert large number here" then forget it. I turned down two publishing deals and both companies are now defunct. Maybe I should have signed with the NY one and just rode the "These advances come out of your royalties" train until they went under. But I'm not that guy. So Sorry for the tirade. I know I'm a jerk and self indulgent but WHO CARES THESE DAYS ANYWAY. Get rid of all the samples and over production (I love great production but not to build a group on or a song around) make great songs as a group or artist them produce it. Not make a song using the production techniques.

So very sorry to hear about the loss of your good friend. He was a great talent too! So this song is better than ANY SONG I've heard from ANY of the top ten videos I've watched him do. So WHY ISN'T THIS on the TOP TEN??!! WHY??!! Who stops it from getting heard by the public?? Why isn't a song this great pushed by the label??

CRAPTASTIC!! Not that there's not any talented people here. But nothing caught my ear or gave me a lift or captured my heart etc. NOTHING. This is because they are still trying to sing corporate made music! It's not naturally from the heart or soul. If it is from the soul then the soul it's from is VERY sick. Nothing unique or dynamic just....dead. IMHO. The whole system needs to be gutted and the old one put back so that groups can play and learn to write and cultivate a "SOUND" as well they need to be HEARD like radio used to do. We use video like it's a necessity for the music. It's a problem and steals away the real magic of music! ETC. What's left to be said?

The topic of "Tone" is always a fun one. One thing I've realized after chasing it myself is that Yes the tone is shaped massively by the gear. (Guitar type amp type pedals and settings of all of these etc). However something we don't think about sometimes is that if you set up a guitar and amp and took each of these musicians and let them play to a blindfolded audience without adjusting any of the gear at all people would quite easily be able to detect who's playing. (All playing an non descriptive piece of music so there's no identifying songs to match up with the players). Seriously a HUGE % of the tone and feel is in the hands of the masters! Eddie playing the same piece of music as Hendrix won't sound like him. And visa versa. Touch feel and technique almost trumps all the other stuff.

I'm assuming the "U47" is the Telefunkin U-47 Immortalized in Frank Zappa's "Joe's Garage" Album on the song (I think) "Crew Slut" LOL. "It looks just like a Telefunkin U-47" is the lyric. LOL Oops Nope I just saw a close up of the name it's a Neuman. It may be that one of the companies copied the other. I'd suspect Neuman would be the newer company but I've not researched that so I don't know. Hey how did the fader on the Red Board feel??

Having played in bands my whole life with many drummers they almost ALL are constantly pounding on them while the rest of the group are trying to communicate or write songs etc. Ringo payed attention to what was going on and what the song was etc. Such a unique and refreshing guy! The whole thing was very long but I LOVED IT!

There are so very many insanely incredible players and pieces done by those artists as well as artists that didn't get the recognition they should have and might have if not for _____etc. However although the list is both long and very short for me to make it far too simple and leaving out so very many giants, to make a tidy clean simple list here is the condensed list I would also make on top of the long complex one. 1. Halen. 1A. Anything from Brian May. 2. All other amazing players. 3. Neil Young on "Cinnamon Girl". LOL. ....Relax it's all in good fun! Now go listen to Cinnamon Girl. lol.

Did he already do "Jane" by Jefferson Starship and "Fantasy" by Aldo Nova?

16:31 Correction, "People used to be able to ""SING LIKE HELL FIRE AND DAMNATION"" WITHOUT VOCAL TUNE ETC".

Sting is uncopyable because he sings like a girl. LOL. I guess women can do it. But as for the rest of the rock world singing his stuff sounds all wrong unless you sound like Sting. Period. LOL. Oh yea and what Rick said. But I insist a lot of credit must go to Andy Summers as I believe that a lot of what happened to what Sting wrote was enhanced big time by Andy's genius. The police were much better IMHO than anything Sting has done solo. That is because the other two made it so.

Another thing that was amazing (All of it was IMHO) but all of the Beatles played all of the instruments at one time or another. Ringo was on piano and working out Yellow Submarine and John is on a six string Bass as was George and John did lead on "Don't Let Me Down" which I didn't know all of them drum etc. So awesome!

14:19 "Rockin in the Free World" verses. "There's Colors on the street, Red White and blue, People shufflin their feet People sleepin in their shoes". LOL. That's what I'm hearing anyway.

It mostly sounds like the Demo songs on the first Casio keyboards they used to sell at the mall "Mr Entertainment" stores in 1986-1994 ish. Rick the production on all of this is just a COMPUTER MIXING SAMPLES. Sorry you are an amazing musician/producer etc but I'M NOT BUYING IT. This is the result of "How computers ruined Rock Music". Pop too. lol. LOVE.

Rick having a great time going through the incredible BR. I find it amazing that when Rick plays along with Brian's recorded guitar parts he plays the notes just fine but I can hear the the dynamics of Brian's playing standing out over it. The amazing feel in that he is using the staccato, the vibrato, the volumes yet gives it all the feel of a spontaneous player giving his soul up for the song. I guess in one word it would be his "Phrasing". Just killer! I've always loved Brian's playing and sound.

I've seen and heard this experiment done before and the outcome is always the same (well in the two times I've seen it lol). To me and I think to everyone that has done it the bid Adjective that predominated was "Richer" although the delay seems to be very pronounced to the player. But not so much to the listener. I've been looking at buying one on ebay and I think I will. RIGHT NOW! LOL.
1
So it's actually "Song" by "Band" you hate. LOL.
1
I wasn't going to watch this Rick. But I'm sure glad I did. Awesome to learn this about you and your dad! You play like a Virtuoso. Yes you do!
1
Those decrying "Boomer Bending" are just doing so because they can't. A "Boomer Bend" is just bending period. There's nothing specific about it. I've been asking "Why can't the newer guitarists bend a string? Or even use something other than big acoustic style strumming when they play? It's so Boring!! At least after the thousandth song with the very same strumming.

You know watching these incredible, awesome videos, interviews and all the cool stuff really is PAINFUL. At times. (Bet you didn't think I was gonna say that LOL). Because it's about things that a musician from that time that aspired to the things that were happening can no longer aspire to. Well I guess that's not completely true. But it's certainly not done or even nurtured and supported the way it was then. I know it wasn't easy but it was something that was possible. Now the only way to do things is to make an Audience first and then sell that hard work from building up your entire fan base to someone else. You have to be a salesman or business person first and an Artist second or even fourth. The gear is all digital (Well you know what I mean) and yes it's MUCH easier to record at a higher level of quality for way cheaper but that's what makes iit worse. Everyone and their dog or cat can make a recording and 90% of it is the computer and not actually talented people with hearts and souls pouring themselves into it. I'm sad now. I think I'll write another song no one will ever hear and that no one will ever care about. Sigh........
1
I did this song for years with my band as well and I remember realizing that I would have to learn the guitar solo note for note. I did but it wasn't too bad because I was such a Cars fan that I already knew how it went in my head so it was something I could just emulate to make happen instead of having to learn the style and notes from scratch.

Honestly we should never be "Trying" to like the songs. The songs should be reaching out and grabbing us if they are great songs. That's why they are great songs isn't it? The only good New song is the Piano song in this! IMHO.

A couple of years ago I was going through live versions of famous songs and found some live stuff by Christopher Cross where he's doing multiple songs in a row live. I was completely blown away by the amazing skills and gift of this guy on the guitar! It's not just his technical prowess it's his incredible FEEL! I had NO IDEA for years that he was as incredible as he is. I thought he was a great singer writer with a very unique voice but had no clue he was the monster he is on guitar. I think it was the hook from "Sailing" that fooled me into thinking that way because it's such a very simple little riff in "A". (I think) Maybe "D" id have to go check but it's what makes the haunting vibe of the song. Anyway KILLER GUITAR?? YOU BET!!!
1
I just Love when Rick's face lights up like a kid on Christmas morning while listening to this song!! So Awesome!

23:31 No No NO RICK It's DELP!! It's Delp Singing the Highest notes along with himself they used too use a guitar when they played Live but in this track IT'S DELP!! He's hitting that Third or whatever it is Higher along with his own singing!!!
1
I could rant about how incestuous the industry has become but it's not going to change a thing. The producers/owners/business men that control the whole thing are stupid and have destroyed the whole thing
1
For Me a serious honorable mention for Doucette's "Mama Let Em Play". Although the band comes in and sings the chorus as Jerry keeps playing the "Outro" on guitar. It is still the main part of the climax to the ending. Ultimately the guitar is an outro and is a main part of the song. Oops I forgot they're Canadian so maybe that disqualifies them from the proceedings LOL. I hope not.
