Not only did my parents know Paterson well enough to let him sleep on the sofa when he was passing through town, but also one of my older cousins - Everett Garnsey - was deeply involved in implementing ethyl lead. Everett worked for the Ethyl Corporation most of his life. It's VERY weird to know how intimately my family has been involved with the worldwide lead poisoning of humanity.

Clair Paterson occasional slept on our sofa when he was passing through town. He was a fairly close acquaintance of my parents.

@COMALiteJ looking at crime analysis over time, I'm going to dispute your conclusion of 'too late.' Despite the societal stressors of 'too many bodies,' violent crime rates associated geographically and temporally with lead exposure have been trending steadily downwards. Now, geographical concentrations (cities, mostly) remain higher than other areas, but even they are trending downward. If you adjust for changes in population and population density, the trend becomes even more starkly obvious. Violent crime rates are a functional proxy for lead exposure.

@finaloption... Small world. Feynman was one of my father's academic advisors. I even have a set of the Feynman Lectures autographed to me personally - a typically weird Feynman gift for my third birthday.
