The practical CEP of the whichever weapons system is being used is very impressive. Hitting a bridge at any range is very difficult; the tightly grouped hits speaks extremely loudly. If Russia has any awareness at all, it should be utterly terrifying to them.

I could see Russia destroying the dam out of spite if they felt they were about to lose the Crimea.

@reekpeekseek you can see the patterning. If there were a significant number of missed shots, the pattern would also stretch along the bridge. It doesn't. All hits fall within a 20 meter circle. If the CEP were greater, the footprint along the length of the bridge would be greater... But it isn't. Ipso facto, the CEP is ~10 meters. Or less.

@johnslugger Russia - higher wages? I'd like to see some evidence of that assertion, because that smells extremely fishy. Anyway, 35% ethnic Russian means 65% ethnic Ukrainian, and I don't see that ratio working in Russia's favor. But ultimately, it's only what Russia can hold, militarily, that counts. They've already retreated all their warships from Sevastopol - not a strong showing. And yes, I would expect Putin to wreck everything he can if forced to retreat. He seems to be just exactly that kind of temper-tantrum throwing little child. Really, the comparisons between Putin and Adolf Hitler grow stronger every day.

@xpusostomos you have heard of cruise missiles, yes? Russia retains some real monsters in inventory.

@johnslugger as discussed, above, No.

@xpusostomos the big cruise missiles have very little tactical utility - too inflexibile. But for a strategic target like a dam, they're perfect.
1
@xpusostomos doesn't change the targeting profile any. A dam is a large, stationary target.

@PsilocybinCocktail exactly my point. If Russia is about to lose Crimea, I expect they'll try to poison the well.
1
@johnslugger certainly.

@deftoneseire07 heh. Yeah, just like the Russians couldn't cross any rivers. It's so cute when novices pretend to be strategists.
