  1. That was NOT a "hunting rifle." It was a variation of a Mosin-Nagant rifle; the one in the picture is complete with a stowed bayonet - VERY much a military weapon, and probably contemporary to the uniform the old man was wearing. The base Mosin rifle was type-standardized in 1891, and made - in various forms - up into the 1950s.
